Iridescent: Prologue

You were standing in the wake of devastation,
You were waiting on the edge of the unknown.
And with the cataclysm raining down,
Insides crying, "Save me now",
You were there, impossibly alone.

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure's all you've known.
Remember all the sadness and frustration,

Eerie silver moonlight coated the ground. The man gazed out at the rest of the world impassively, seeking something that couldn't be found. The wind of the night whispered in his ear, dancing with the edges of his overcoat and playing with his hair. He took a drag from his cigarette; readjusted his fedora. He appeared to be pondering something. You can make it. The sentence mocked him. Saying that everything would be okay. It's all a lie.
He discarded of his cigarette angrily, gritting his teeth together. Nothing would ever be okay. The man glared down at the city below him, as if doing so would cause everything to be alright. He leaped down from the balcony, his lip curling in an attempt to hide his forlornness. His feet came into contact with the solid concrete. The collision hurt, but that was the least of his worries. Without a word, he traipsed down the shadowy street, away from the sleeping city. Away from his worries and problems. Never stopping, he trekked on, letting the night seize him in its greedy, obscuring, relieving, and unforgiving clutches.
